Charleston Connect

Announcing Charleston Connect the weekend of October 4 – 6 in beautiful and historic Charleston, SC!

Join us for a series of presentations and conversations exploring Ben Hunt’s Make-Protect-Teach paradigm. Together, we’ll discuss how to navigate the challenges of creating sustainable and fulfilling value (Make), nurturing relationships and communities (Protect), and sharing knowledge (Teach) in today’s increasingly fraught social and political climate.

We’re asking for a $50 donation to Fable to hold each spot, and we’ll ask attendees to chip in as needed to cover the direct costs of events. As always, spouses, friends and partners are entirely welcome to register and attend. We’ve got a hard cap of 30 attendees, so please register as soon as possible if you’re able to attend!

Agenda

This is a working agenda — more details to come.

Friday, October 4:

Founded in 1748, the Charleston Library Society stands as one of the oldest cultural institutions in the country. It has provided decades of programming, historic manuscripts, and archival material to promote lifelong learning. After touring this historic location, Ben Hunt will discuss what the Make-Protect-Teach (MPT) paradigm means to him. Matt Pardieck will also share his MPT project, a YouTube series titled “Beauty vs the Beast,” inspired by his role as a screener for the Civilian Medal of Honor Awards. The day will end with dinner at various renowned spots throughout the foodie town of Charleston, perhaps even a rooftop bar overlooking the harbor.

Saturday, October 5:
Located within the WWII aircraft carrier Yorktown, the Congressional Medal of Honor museum features an interactive exhibit celebrating the courage and bravery of Medal of Honor recipients. In the morning, we'll enjoy a private tour that highlights the common values of these heroes, and there may be a chance for a local surviving recipient to join us. Afterwards, we encourage everyone to explore the Yorktown, South Carolina’s most visited tourist attraction.

In the afternoon, we’ll visit the International African American Museum, located on the pier where 40% of enslaved Africans entered the U.S. through the port of Charleston. This recently opened museum showcases the resilience and creativity of African American culture. It highlights contributions to music, art, crafts, science, technology, and culture.

Finally, we'll end the day with dinner cruise on the Charleston Harbor and at a tiki rooftop bar overlooking the harbor.

Sunday, October 6:
Morning commencement breakfast.
